What Spiritual Type Are You?

Recently, I had a talk with a pastor friend of mine. He pastors a church that loves worship and praise. Every time he tells me that his church had a great time in worship, I get excited, and wish to duplicate their experience at my church. However, there is one thing that I don’t think that I will ever be ready to duplicate. THE ABSENCE OF THE WORD!

He stated that sometimes worship is so great, and the Spirit is so high, that they often run over time, and have no other choice but to dismiss service without hearing the preaching of the word of God.

Now I realize that some people express themselves differently in worship, and can get caught up in praise, as stated by Urban T Holmes, whose writing on spiritual typology describes the different ways we approach and experience God; however, in my opinion, we always need to hear the word of God.

What is the point of going to the Super Bowl and cheering without ever seeing your favorite team play?

I would love to hear from you?

For a complete study on this topic study the following scriptures: Joshua 1:8, Ps 1, Ps. 119:19, Is 59:21, Luke 6:46, John 8:31.

  2. Every now and then The church I grew up would dismiss us after a really emotional praise and worship portion of the service. I guess I never really thought about not hearing the Word of God because I was feeling so uplifted by the praise and worship. As a child then, I guess this was somewhat sufficient, but now I seem to be more excited about hearing the message and Word of God. Brother Damon

  3. I think that each church service should have a combination of both. Praise and Worship should be included in service so that we give Honor to God. We should also hear the Word and make reference to our Bible as well. We need the teaching to change our ways. I don't think that change will come with Praise alone.

  4. I'm not sure I understand the question? Acccording to Joshua 1:8 It tells us to meditate on His word day and night. Therefore, we are always suppose to hear the word of God! We should give thanks to the Lord for what He has done and for what He is about to do in our lives. I do believe Praise & Worship is part of your walk with Jesus. However, not all!-We must read and hear the Word of God in order to grow in our walk of Faith. The Bibles states it is impossible to please Him without Faith. Therefore, you must hear the Word and cannot not begin to praise or worship him if you do not hear the word. Sister Sandra Rhodes

  5. I think that both are of importance. I think that having only worship and not the word go forth could confuse one who is seeking salvation. being a mature christian you would understand the flow of the spirit, but not having a true understanding could run one off. I know to me that the word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my pathway. It is what sustains me. In Proverbs 6:23 It states he shall die without instruction and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.... Sis Stephanie

  6. The "spoken word" is very important! However in order to reach all, one must be willing to open their hearts and understand that Gods words can be heard far beyond the spoken. God words can be found in all that we do...song, smiles, touch...when I smile at someone, I am saying Be Bless! I hear the same when someone smiles at me. I know that Gods message is delivered to me in so many ways...without anyone speaking a single word, I hear him...I talk to him without uttering a word. If you leave the house of the Lord filled with his Holy Spirit, excited about doing his work, has not your Pastor friend done the work of the Lord? It is no question that your Gift is the spoken word...others may have the gift of song, the gift of listening. As your Pastor friend stated, this is not all the time...and if the Holy Spirit lead him to take a different approach, then surely there is a reason.

    Be Blessed!
