Recently, I had a talk with a pastor friend of mine. He pastors a church that loves worship and praise. Every time he tells me that his church had a great time in worship, I get excited, and wish to duplicate their experience at my church. However, there is one thing that I don’t think that I will ever be ready to duplicate. THE ABSENCE OF THE WORD!
He stated that sometimes worship is so great, and the Spirit is so high, that they often run over time, and have no other choice but to dismiss service without hearing the preaching of the word of God.
Now I realize that some people express themselves differently in worship, and can get caught up in praise, as stated by Urban T Holmes, whose writing on spiritual typology describes the different ways we approach and experience God; however, in my opinion, we always need to hear the word of God.
What is the point of going to the Super Bowl and cheering without ever seeing your favorite team play?
